AOL’s Xdrive to Close
November 12, 2008 – 11:54Well, I just received an email from AOL, stating that:
“We are writing to inform you that after Jan. 12, 2009, AOL will no longer support the Xdrive online storage service and the site will permanently close. It is important that you make plans to download your files to your local computer or hard drive.”
I haven’t used Xdrive in a while, I found the service to be ultimately not that useful to someone that has a large amount of readily accessible webspace on the net, already.
I also have been using the Dropbox service for several months, and it’s much more streamlined and superior for my needs.
Why do you think Xdrive went belly up? Poor interface, too small of a storage area? Speed? I didn’t use it enough to be able to provide a reliable opinion.
But AOL has a LOT of money, Xdrive must have really started to suck.
It did give me the option to download all of the files that I had stored there as one big zip file, which I did.
Buh-bye, Xdrive.
