Vista Service Pack 2 Beta

December 7, 2008 – 20:40

I read on the Gottabemobile site that Microsoft has released the public beta of Windows Vista Service Pack 2.  By all reports this fixes more annoyances and also further enhances/fixes the speed "loss" that some claim to have experienced over Windows XP.

Personally I think most people that complain about Vista need to stop being Luddites.  Vista is here to stay, and has been more successful overall on launch than both Windows 98 or XP.

Currently I run Vista Ultimate 64 on my desktop, and Vista Home Premium on my notebook.  Now that I have recovered the drivers folder from the HP install on the notebook, it may become Ultimate again, however, I don’t really see any advantage in doing so at this point.

So the download is proceeding quite slowly, as every rubber-necker non-tech person that isn’t going to participate in the beta is getting it right now.  What I mean to say by this is that most people that "sign on" to beta test deliver no feedback at all, and I personally wish they wouldn’t even allow it.  Hence the crap that Vista was at release.  Most of the so-called beta testers were post-adolescent acne ridden "leet" kiddies that wanted to show off but know absolutely nothing about quality assurance.

I’ll report on the beta later, after installation.
