OneNote and Dropbox Redux

December 19, 2008 – 21:11

I’ve been using DropBox.  A lot.  See my older post.  Also, I still think that OneNote from Microsoft is one of the most killer applications to come from ANYWHERE, not just Redmond.

Well, I have noticed traffic is way up on my blog here, and was wondering why.

Scott Blitstein mentioned my use of DropBox and OneNote in his recent article in the Clearing the Cache column located on Web Worker Daily.  He’s also started using my sharing method.  (I hate to take credit, it was frankly so simple…)  The only thing I’ve noticed in the last month is the fact that Dropbox doesn’t seem to update quite as fast as it used to.  Which to me is a great sign, as I’ve come to rely on it and want it to succeed and remain popular.

By the way, I’m really excited that I actually got a trackback/link from there!  Thanks much, Scott.

Anyway, back to the purpose.  I have been keeping all the information about everything in my shared notebook.  Personal and Business, both my web consulting and my general consulting business.  I haven’t found anything better, and for that matter, even if I could find something better it probably wouldn’t have “persistent sharing” across machines without dedicated IP’s, special server software, or a persistent network connection.

  • I’ve even been keeping a recipe book so when my girlfriend invariably loses them, I can email them back to her.
  • I keep a generic client notebook, where I keep everything that I want to share between machines about each client.
  • Bench Notes from the repair business.
  • Standard OneNote usage, such as, well, the usual notebook-ey goodness.
  • Blog topics.  I tend to burst write, and I post date my blog articles so they appear in the future.  Even though I’m writing everything in Windows Live Writer now.

So DropBox is an awesome service, and pair it with OneNote, it should get some kind of site award!  In fact I think you can go vote for that on the main site.
